whatwebelieve

At The Good Shepherd Ministries, we hold the following eleven Statements of Faith as absolute truth. Please note that we've supplied scripture texts that reveal each statement's Biblical origin.

  1. We believe the Scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments, are the inspired Word of God and are without error in the original writings. We believe that these Scriptures are the complete revelation of His Will for the salvation of man, as well as the Divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life. (2nd Peter 1:20-22 and 2nd Timothy 3:15,16)

  2. We believe in one God, the creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4, and Matthew 5:48 and 28:19)

  3. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins, according to the Scriptures. Furthermore, He arose bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven where, at the right hand of the Majesty on High, He is now our High Priest and our Advocate. (Philippians 2:6-11, Luke 1:28-38, 1st Peter 3:18, Hebrews 2:9, Romans 5:9, Hebrews 8:1, Acts 2:23-24, and Matthew 26:64)

  4. We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and, during his age, to convict men and regenerate the believing sinner. We believe the Holy Spirit indwells, guides, instructs, and empowers the believer for godly living and service. (John 14:15-18, John 16:13, Acts 1:8, and John 16:7-11)

  5. We believe that man was created in the image of God, but fell into sin and is therefore lost. Only through the regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life can be obtained. (Genesis 1:27, Romans 3:23, 1st Corinthians 15:20-23, Revelation 21:8, and Revelation 21:1-4)

  6. We believe that the shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe. Therefore, only those who receive Jesus Christ and are born of the Holy Spirit become children of God. (Titus 3:4-7)

  7. We believe the true Church consists of all those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, are redeemed through His blood, and born again of the Holy Spirit. Christ is the Head of the Body, the Church, which has been commissioned by Him to go into all the world as a witness, preaching the gospel to all nations. The local church is a body of believers in Christ joined together for the worship of God, edification through the Word of God, prayer, fellowship, the proclamation of the gospel, and observance of the ordinances of Water Baptism and the Lord's Supper. (Ephesians 1:22-23, Matthew 28:19-20, and Acts 2:41-47)

  8. We believe that there is provision made in the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ for the healing of the mortal body. Prayer for the sick and anointing with oil are taught in the Scriptures and are privileges for the Church in the present age. (Matthew 8:16-17 and James 5:13-16)

  9. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Lord and Head of the Church, and that every local church has the right under Christ to decide and govern its own affairs. (Ephesians 5:23-30, Colossians 1:24-27, and Hebrews 12:22-24)

  10. We believe in the personal, premillennial, and imminent coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We believe this "Blessed Hope" has a vital bearing on the personal life and service of the believer. (Hebrews 10:37, Luke 21:27, and Titus 2:11-14)

  11. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead; of the believer to everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord, of the unbeliever to judgment and everlasting conscious punishment. (1st Corinthians 15:20-23 and John 5:28-29)
